Why A Mobile Version of Your Web Site Should Be a Priority

By admin - August 31st, 2011

63.2 million Americans own a Smartphone (comScore), and 35% of these users access the mobile internet from these devices. Much of the data beingsmartphonel 256x300 Why A Mobile Version of Your Web Site Should Be a Priority tracked shows that most of these people are using their phones to search for local businesses to get information on hours, locations, specials, etc.

Many web sites do not work as expected on mobile phones. Actually, some do not work at all. Consequently, potential customers may not be able to find your business – and those that do may have a bad experience trying to locate information or products they need. This could alienate existing customers and will not win over any new customers.

Based on our own statistics of existing clients, mobile users are accounting for an average of 10% of visits (based on Google Analytics). The highest percentage of visits from mobile are directed to ecommerce and automotive related web sites. Revenue or Goals from mobile visits average over 6% of the total sales/goals.

Mobile users have immediate and goal-directed intentions. The key to a mobile site’s effectiveness is a specific call to action. Instead of using a standard navigation with a link to a contact page we would consider placing phone numbers in prominent positions throughout the mobile site, utilizing a cell phones’ click-to-call feature, rather than having to complete an email form or dial the number.

Website Redesign for your Business

By admin - July 18th, 2011

Are you considering a website redesign for your business website? If so, keep these tips in mind and let IQnection help you through the development:

  1. Your #1 Goal is to attract more visitors and leads. Focus on the results you want: more visitors, leads, and customers; then make decisions based on these goals.
  2. Avoid any consequences by reviewing your assets. It is possible that a redesign can negatively affect your results by unintentionally removing existing “assets” like pages and links that are driving the most leads. Analyze your most powerful pages and links and protect them during the redesign process.
  3. Invest in content that attracts visitors and converts them into leads. Focus on function by creating an ongoing content creation strategy like a blog that continually adds content to your website..
  4. Create conversions with ‘calls to action’ and landing pages. Once visitors are coming to your website, give them the opportunity to give you their contact information in exchange for content. Use your landing pages.
  5. Measure the impact of visitors and leads. Make sure you have website analytics in place to measure the progress toward your goals.

Your business website is a business tool and should deliver positive business results.

Benefits of a Blog

By admin - April 22nd, 2011

For a small business adding a Blog to your website maybe a big decision, and one you may think not worth the extra work it could entail. However, there are benefits that can be obtained by adding a company Blog. Here are a few:

  • Adding Content for Search Engines
    • For every Blog post published you are adding another page to your website. This means you can create content and include the keywords you are trying to rank for in the search engine results. Adding these pages gives the search engine ‘spiders’ additional pages to ‘crawl’. When writing the content, use up to 10 new keywords you want to target. These can include longer phrases that contain these keywords. The more pages you can get into the top search engine results, the greater the potential for more visitors.
  • Fresh Content
    • Search engines like websites that have new, fresh content. By posting to your Blog, you are updating your websites content. In addition, for every Blog post you are adding another URL to your site. This in turn gives the search engines a reason to come back and crawl your pages. Not to mention the benefits for your viewers. You can Blog about new products or new trends in your industry. This in turn can generate more sales and leads.
  • The Power of Links
    • One of the keys to search engine rankings is the amount of ‘inbound links’ to your site. Links are how search engines find new web pages. By linking your Blog posts to relevant pages of your website you are sending signals to the search engines to see the connections between your pages and the content.
  • Avoid Duplicate Content
    • Search engines do their best to avoid showing duplicate content in search results. Try and publish original content which will rank better.

A Blog is a great way to keep your content new and in turn boost your search engine results. In addition to giving people reason to revisit your site often. There are no rules as to the number of posts needed to be published and even once a month is a good place to start. Ideally Blog posts need not be larger than 400 words. Half of all Blogs average 100-250 words.

The Need for Website Maintenance

By Josh Loomis - March 2nd, 2011

There are factors in play for both computers and websites that make them just as susceptible to the need for maintenance as your car or your home. Computers have moving parts: hard drive motors, fans, etc. But even if these ran flawlessly for years, their parts would ‘rot’ in a sense. As technology advances, software grows in terms of the ways it uses processors and renders graphics. From games to productivity suites, software is constantly finding ways to do more tasks more efficiently in a shorter amount of time. Just shaving a few seconds from a process can place diabolical demands on a processor from two years ago. Like replacing a struggling furnace in your house, upgrading your computer’s internal systems can have your system doing what it does faster and more efficiently for years.

Websites, similarly, suffer from what is colloquially called ‘code rot.’ As the average speed of our Internet connections increases, processors grow more efficient and browsers get better at displaying colors and graphics. Older sites begin to look dated, shoddy or even incomplete. Better coding techniques and updated programming scripts can leave older, less efficient methods behind causing old animations and banners to either display incorrectly or not at all. And the chances of developers or programmers being either familiar with these old methods or willing to deal with their antiquated and inefficient ways and means are slim. It’s more often a better investment to look into a redesign, preserving the essence and content of your site while incorporating the latest design methodologies and programming techniques, as well as integrating SEO options and flexibility, something old sites very rarely accounted for.

IQnection’s new site is a prime example of this principle at work.
