It’s amazing how many of us take for granted our abilities or even worse overlook our talents. Many convince themselves that they don’t have any creativity and often refuse to look at the possibilities within. Vincent Van Gogh was quoted as saying, “If you hear a voice within you say ‘you cannot paint,’ then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.” The word “paint” in that quote can easily be changed to sing or dance or playing an instrument. The point is, just doing squelches the naysayer inside.
The Conservatory exists for you to explore your potential and to uncover what lies within. It offers individual and group instruction in music, art and drama ranging from the very basics to advanced college preparation and professional development. The experienced faculty of more than fifty working musicians and artists are ready to support your journey. Whether you have always wanted to play the piano or you would like to try your hand at painting, The Conservatory’s programs are intended for you to do so successfully in a positive and fun-filled environment.
No one is excluded from The Conservatory’s mission to make the arts accessible. The Conservatory’s outreach programs bring the arts to persons who might otherwise not have access. The Arts Therapy Program provides healing and growth using the arts for persons with disabilities. The Arts for Seniors Program opens up the arts for those more advanced in years, while the Neighborhood Notes program explores artistic activities with disadvantaged and at-risk youth.
Imagine our loss if Beethoven had allowed his deafness to stop him in the discovery of music. Consider the impact on the arts if Grandma Moses had not had the courage to begin painting as she began to age. Now, look at what you might have to offer or gain if you just take the chance and try something new and creative.
