Recent data released shows some significant figures on how consumers use Local Search.
The objective of the survey was to try and answer the following questions:
- From what websites do typical local businesses receive most of their website visitors?
- Where should you focus your local-online marketing efforts?
- How regularly do Local Consumers use Local Search Services to find Local Businesses?
- Do local consumers find Google Places and Local Search services useful?
Survey Results:
- Google Places drives the most visits and Google.com came in second with a combined 58% of visits to Local Websites
- 31% of consumers report they use Google weekly to find Local Businesses
- 71% of consumers value the information contained within local search results.
- 60% of consumers responded that images included in the Google Places Listings made them more likely to consider and or contact that business.

From a local business perspective, these results are significant in showing the power and importance of not only claiming your Local Listing on Google Places but having that listing optimized. Adding accurate categories, correctly using the description text, and including images all help in consumer’s consideration to contact your business.
